Weekly Photo Challenge: Unusual

Earth songs and whispers
sculpting exquisite figures
Endless refinement

These unusual and natural formations are called hoodoos, and exist at Goblin Valley State Park.  They are the result of soft sandstone eroded over time.  The figures actually do look like goblins to me!  I like the look of old postcards (especially those I have of Yellowstone National Park) and attempted that effect here.

  2. A lovely photograph. I just love the way you are able to turn a almost ordinary photograph (even if it’s quite some special rock formations) in terms of light and composition into a gem like this. The end result is astonishing and beautiful. By the way for me these hoodoos look like the heads on Easter Island.

  4. Definitely unusual! I think the two goblins on the left have had a fight with the one on the right and now they’re muttering darkly about him!

  7. Love these unusual, yet natural, Goblin Valley Hoodoos. 🙂 And, the old postcard effect takes your wonderful capture over the top! 🙂
